A career in Dietetics is a career with a future. Nutrition and its relationship to optimal health is an area of growing interest and importance. Professionally trained men and women of all ages are needed to fill positions in hospitals and medical centers, clinics, schools and day care centers, community agencies, senior nutrition programs, health spas, and eating disorder and behavior modification centers.

Long Beach City College offers two programs in Dietetics:
• Dietetics Service Supervisor
• Dietetics Technician

A Dietetic Service Supervisor is a director of a health care food service operation. This program may be completed in two semesters, full time. Program completers receive State of California Certification as well as a vocational certificate.

A Dietetic Technician serves as a nutritional counselor or manager in a health care facility. This two-year program leads to a vocational certificate and an Associates degree. The graduate is also eligible to take the American Dietetics Association registration examination.

Both programs are competency-based and include hands-on training in local hospitals and health care agencies as well as classroom experience. Upon completion, students are assisted in job placement and career advancement.

Students may enter the program any semester. Classes are offered during the day, late afternoon and evening to accommodate the varying schedules of students.
